CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL AND SYLVIA who were engaged recently. Sylvia thought her boyfriend was giving her a great gift when he took her to the airport and said he had booked a parachute jump for her. Little did she know the extent of the gift until she landed on Lee Point Beach to the applause of about a dozen friends who then witnessed Michael ask her to marry him.
Michael yelled, “SHE SAID YES!” which was greeted by the applause of all present, hugs all round and a few tears of joy.
Many members of the Darwin Presbyterian Church – both male and female – look like they are pregnant, but it is just the result of the great food at the Great Cake Bake-off held recently. It was a great time of fellowship around games, eating and lots of talk and laughter.
The general consensus was,
“Do you want to do this again tomorrow?” “Ooooohhh, NO!” (recovery time needed).
“Do you want to do it again next year?” “YESSS! Wouldn’t miss it for quids!”
The church camp was held in June.
It was a great time of getting to know each other, relaxing and learning.
The Speaker this year was Stuart Bonnington, who is the Pastor of the Fremantle Presbyterian Church and the Superintendent of the Presbyterian Inland Mission (www.pim.org.au).
Stuart spoke on the parts of the Apostles' Creed which relates to the person and work of Christ.
One happy camper commented a few days later that he had not been impacted so much at a camp since he was a teenager (many years ago!).
The talks can be accessed from the "Sermons and Podcasts" page.
In early June we enjoyed a great night of fellowship which included watching a tear-jerker family movie outside at the home of one of our church families.
What was the most memorable event of the night? ....
In years to come, someone will say, "Remember those open air movie nights we used to have in DPC?", and the response will inevitably come, "Yes, and what about the 2011 one where we all set up and comfortably sitting in our chairs onthe lawn when the automatic sprinklers came on!!"
Thanks to Reuben for rescuing us in the midst of the sprinkling.
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Bree, a new daughter for Ben and Jenny. We pray that she will be blessed a great blessing for them as a family and for the Lord's people throughout her life.
